About This Event:
Extroverted, heartfelt and vigorous folk music from an award-winning Swedish quintet.
Extroverted, heartfelt and vigorous folk music from an award-winning Swedish quintet. Jaerv's humongous, vivid sound has established them on the folk music scene as well as in many other forums. Rooted in several different musical traditions, along with jazz and pop influences, Jaerv blends five-voice harmonies with energetic dance tunes and free improvisations.
In addition to their evening performance, Jaerv will present a FREE program on Swedish folk music and culture at York's Martin Library on Sunday afternoon. Enlightening and entertaining, it's sure to whet your appetite for their concert!
Just announced: the concert will be held in Steinman Hall, downstairs, instead of upstairs in the Owen Salon. Enjoy state-of-the-art sound and fantastic acoustics in this beautiful theater!
"The Swedish folk group Jaerv takes the elements of traditional Scandinavian music and reflects them through a modern prism, with an all-acoustic sound that nonetheless takes a bevy of tricky turns in rhythm and harmony that makes the pleasant rural melodies ring with a contemporary complexity." —Rick Massimo, Journal Pop Music Writer, April 10 2010
Jaerv has done several tours in the US, played live at BBC Scotland, and performed twice at the biggest folk festival in northern Europe, Celtic Connections in Glasgow.
