Caroline Keane & Tom Delaney

After Caroline and Tom's performance in our 2020 Emerging Artist Showcase, our judges all declared they were moving to Dingle. The Irish duo's joy in playing together was irresistible, as was Caroline's transcendent grin and their ability to charm and connect with a livestream audience.

This concert debuted on November 7, 2021 as a virtual concert created exclusively for Susquehanna Folk Music Society viewers.

This duo brings a youthful exuberance to the powerful tradition of Irish music. The fiery lift and drive of Caroline's concertina is perfectly matched by the percussive melodies of Tom's uilleann pipes. Their rollicking tunes, technical mastery and sheer musical passion are a delight to experience.

This multimedia concert is part of a virtual tour that Caroline and Tom have titled HOME — an invitation to where and how they live. Their concert of songs and tunes, professionally filmed just for Susquehanna Folk, will be set alongside stunning footage of the Dingle peninsula: the landscape that inspires them daily. Caroline and Tom will introduce us to contemporary everyday life in Dingle, giving us an intimate insight into their lives and work as traditional artists in rural Ireland. The Home tour is created in association with Culture Ireland.

About Caroline Keane

Caroline was, from a young age, exposed to a wealth of traditional music. Growing up in Limerick, and later moving to the Irish-speaking Gaeltacht area of west Kerry, the musical influences of these areas have become the cornerstone of her uniquely vibrant, passionate and emotive style of concertina playing. Now having toured extensively throughout Europe, North America and Australasia performing in both solo and ensemble capacities, Caroline is truly a world musician.

Since 2013, Caroline has been a member of the group FourWinds, performing “An exciting landscape of tunes and lyrics that present Irish traditional music in a modern and creative context”. Her most recent release, debut solo album “Shine” (2020), achieved significant critical acclaim from peers, media and folk audiences worldwide. Commended for her effervescent and heartwarming music, Caroline was nominated as ’Best Folk Instrumentalist’ at the 2020 RTÉ Radio 1 Folk Awards and honored as ‘Female Musician of the Year‘ at the 2021 ASLR Celtic Music Awards.

About Tom Delaney

Born and raised in France, Tom hails from an upbringing steeped in traditional music. His lively rhythmic style is truly unique. Having toured the world, performing in both solo and group contexts, from the United States to New Zealand, he boasts musicianship beyond his years. Tom has been playing Irish traditional music since the age of 12, when his father Rory, who emigrated from Ireland in the 1980s, taught him to play the tin whistle. By thirteen, Tom had picked up the uilleann pipes, and was already performing regularly around France. Inspired by the travelling style of piping which he encountered in recordings of Johnny Doran, Paddy Keenan and Davy Spillane, Tom’s music was later greatly influenced by the playing of Mickey Dunne, John McSherry and Blackie O’Connell. Since his first of many visits to county Clare, Tom has also developed a particular fondness for the music of the west of Ireland.

In 2009, Tom completed his undergraduate degree, specializing in Irish folklore at University College Dublin. He was accepted to the MA in Irish Traditional Music Performance at the Irish World Academy of Limerick, from which he graduated in 2013. In August 2012, Tom claimed second place in the prestigious All-Ireland Fleadh Cheoil. He currently resides in Dingle, Co. Kerry, where he performs regularly.
