2021 Susquehanna Folk Festival Le Vent du Nord

Thursday, June 24, 2021 Virtual Concert 7:30 pm Eastern

About This Event:

We're absolutely thrilled to have Le Vent du Nord as a headline act for the Susquehanna Folk Festival. They wowed us last fall with a top-notch livestream concert, and this show will likely raise the bar again as it celebrates Fête Nationale du Québec (Québec National Day). Did we mention that these guys are loudly, proudly Québécois?

We're absolutely thrilled to have Le Vent du Nord as a headline act for the Susquehanna Folk Festival. They wowed us last fall with a top-notch livestream concert, and they'll likely raise the bar again with this show as it celebrates Fête Nationale du Québec (Québec National Day). Did we mention that these guys are loudly, proudly Québécois?

Le Vent du Nord is a leading force in Québec’s progressive francophone folk movement. The group's vast repertoire draws from both traditional sources and original compositions, while enhancing its hard-driving soulful music (rooted in the Celtic diaspora) with a broad range of global influences.

“Featuring button accordion, guitar and fiddle, the band’s sound is defined by the hurdy-gurdy, which adds an earthy, rough-hewn flavor to even the most buoyant dance tunes.”Boston Herald

Since its inception in August 2002, Le Vent du Nord has enjoyed meteoric success, performing well over 2,000 concerts over 4 continents and racking up several prestigious awards, including a Grand Prix du Disque Charles Cros, two Junos (Canada’s Grammys), a Félix at ADISQ, a Canadian Folk Music Award, and “Artist of the Year” at Folk Alliance Annual Gala.

The band brings together Nicolas Boulerice on hurdy-gurdy, Simon Beaudry on guitar and vocals, fiddlers Olivier Demers and André Brunet, and Réjean Brunet on accordion. On stage these friends create intense, joyful and dynamic live performances that expand the bounds of tradition in striking global directions. This is the modern sound of tradition, a music of the here and now.

The concert will be performed at the Théâtre Belcourt in Baie-du-Febvre, Québec, on the banks of the St. Lawrence river.
