Meet the Susquehanna All-Stars
After more than a decade of billing this “who’s who” quartet of powerhouse Central PA musicians by stringing together their surnames, we've finally convinced them to adopt an official moniker! Kevin Neidig, Henry Koretzky, Ken Gehret and Bruce Campbell rock a whole range of musical styles, but this concert is going to be a special treat.
What is Hot Club Jazz?
Hot Club Jazz originated in pre-World War II Paris, in backstage jams with Romani guitarist Django Reinhardt and swing violinist Stéphane Grappelli. Their “Quintette du Hot Club de France” popularized a freewheeling, virtuosic jazz that became a classic sound of the 1930s. Though the post-war mainstream jazz scene moved on to other fashions, the style remained popular among Reinhardt’s people, the Manouche (French Sinti) clan of travelers. A revival in the 1970s brought "hot club style" or "jazz manouche" back into the mainstream, inspiring a new world-wide generation of jazz musicians to carry the legacy forward.
Kevin Neidig
Kevin is one of the finest musicians on the Central PA scene, combining virtuosity in singing, instrumental playing and songwriting. In addition to being a powerful solo performer, his creative arrangements and agile picking and playing on a host of stringed instruments make him a valued collaborator.
Henry Koretzky
Henry has been a fixture on the local roots music scene since the early 80s, playing bluegrass, contra dance music, swing, contemporary folk/Americana, and a bit of Celtic. He's played with a long list of bands that will be familiar to local contra dancers and festival-goers, including his latest project, the Harrisburg Mandolin Ensemble.
Ken Gehret
Ken has been performing as a musician for more than thirty years, primarily as a guitarist and violinist. Ken performs, teaches, composes and arranges for over 17 instruments including voice, woodwind, reed, string and keyboards. His local band projects range from Irish traditional to bluegrass to jazz. He has performed with country music stars including Roy Clark and Mel Tillis, and has performed at the Grand Ole Opry.
Bruce Campbell
Bruce has been a favored sideman in our area for dozens of bands and musicians over the last 40 years. In the 90s, string bass wooed his heart away from keyboards and guitar, and he specializes now in all varieties of jazz, as well as numerous singer/songwriter acts. An active local performer, he can also be heard on a score of recordings, both as a regular band member and as a studio sideman.
