Amy Alvey and Mark Kilianski of Golden Shoals were initially brought together by a mutual love of American folk music. Their sound has expanded to include country, Americana, Indie and Experimental influences, pairing conservatory chops with raw roots style. Their songwriting is simple, honest, and fresh to the ears, grounded in Old-Time and Bluegrass and inspired by traditional Appalachian mountain music.
Golden Shoals’ tour performances include a varied cast of collaborators, and this show will feature two Baltimore-based musicians who are rising roots stars in their own right:
Brad Kolodner is another old-time musician pushing the boundaries of the tradition into uncharted territory. In addition to being a very fine performer on clawhammer banjo, he's also a composer, teacher, jam leader and community builder; DJ for Bluegrass Country Radio and Radio Bristol, as well as Folk Alley online; and a knowledgeable ambassador for Old-Time and Bluegrass music.
Alex Lacquement is “a true shepherd of rhythm,” with a solid and innovative groove on upright bass. Whether on stage playing jazz, old-time, bluegrass, or playing with singer song-writers, his tone is unmistakable and joy for performing is obvious and infectious. As a professional music educator, he focuses on teaching community-based music through aurally learned songs and tunes, and dance.

Special Guests TANJO & CROW PROJECT

Tanjo & Crow Project is a no-holds-barred exploration of roots music through distinctive songwriting, Appalachian arrangements, and seemingly fearless improvisation.
One rainy evening, Tanner Bingaman found himself drunk in a dive bar, grooving on Allan Combs II and his funky-blues fusion of guitar and gritty vocals. Though they had both played that bar many times as solo acts, they had never crossed paths until that day. Tanner crashed Allan's gig, retrieving his banjo from the car and asking Allan if he could sit in and pick a few. Allan obliged, and an outrageous set of improvisations ensued, leaving the duo crazy smiling and the TV-glued bar attendees downright confused. Neither of them expected over a half decade would pass before they shared melodies together once more.
