FAQs: Who Should Apply

Local Folk: We simply mean artists willing to travel to Harrisburg, PA for an unpaid gig.

Musicians: We are always looking for musical artists in all acoustic and folk styles. We enjoy introducing our audiences to new local talent, and the first step for that is often our Coffeehouse stage.

Other Artists: We'd love to meet you! While our typical Coffeehouse performers are musicians, we do strive for variety. And although funding for our Folk Arts Center is uncertain, we still want to build a network of Central PA folks who practice traditional arts. If in doubt, reach out!

But not...

  • This application is NOT for our Concert Series.
  • This application is NOT for opening acts or co-presented events, but it's a step in that direction. Past Coffeehouse performers are often our top picks for those opportunities.
  • No application is needed for our Open Mic nights; just show up and sign up.
  • No application is needed to get on our Resource List, but you do need to be a member of SFMS.

FAQs: Coffeehouse

Do your thing: These 30 minute sets are not paid performances, but we do provide publicity, a pizza dinner and a merch table. We will ask for a good photo and a brief bio blurb.

Sound great: We provide professional sound appropriate to our intimate venue: vocal mics, instrumental mics and plug-in. Light percussion is fine, but no drum kits, please.

Sell your merch: We provide a table where you can set out merchandise, tip jar, QR code, mailing list signup, etc. You keep 100% of your proceeds.

Every couple years: To showcase a variety of music and talent, we avoid having the same artist twice in a two-year span.
