Folk Artists Gathering
Saturday, August 15, 2026
1 pm
2:30 pm
at the Unitarian Church of Harrisburg
About This Event:
The Susquehanna Folk Arts Center is hosting a get-together for people who practice or enjoy traditional arts. That term includes playing traditional music, singing in a church choir, making quilts or rugs or wood-carvings, cooking from grandma’s recipes, learning Balkan dances — the list is endless! Please join us for networking with other folk arts practitioners, or just to take a peek into the kaleidoscope of local traditional arts.

Artist-to-Artist Networking
1:00 - 2:20 pm
The first part of the afternoon is for folk and traditional artists to meet one another, share resources, and chat. This will be a conversation about artists’ needs in the region and the changing funding opportunities at the PA Council on the Arts (now PA Creative Industries).
Be sure to pre-register! Bring artwork to display, instruments to play, or skills to demonstrate.
Artists, we encourage you to join us if you are working to sustain or advance any artistic traditions shaped and handed down within families, neighborhoods, and communities.
Public Showcase
2:30 pm: Meet the Artists
At mid-afternoon we open the doors to the public for a “gallery walk.” Visiting with artists at their tables, guests will be delighted and inspired by the wide variety of traditional arts practiced in Central PA, and the boundless creativity that keeps beloved traditions fresh and vibrant.
3:15 pm: Center Stage
At 3:15 we head upstairs to the sanctuary for performances by local traditional artists:
- Traditional Nepali music by Folk Arts Gallery participant Muskan Balampaki and students from his GEMCA School of Music
- A conversation with a local craft artist (to be announced)
- Old-time string-band music by future Folk Arts Gallery participant Glenn Carson and friends
